The Shorewood Elementary Art Docent Program is a visual arts enrichment program lead by volunteers. Most art docent volunteers are parents who coordinate with their child's teacher to come into the classroom and lead art and craft projects for the students. Art docents lead their own project ideas, or use lessons from the ArtsWA curriculum. Art supplies and project support are provided by the PTA.
Anyone!... Most art docents are parents or guardians of a student in the class for which they volunteer. New docents can partner with experienced docents, receive training from the art docent coordinators, or take the reins on their own. Our art docents also include grandparents, local artists, and community members who are passionate about visual arts education.

In addition to general craft supplies, we have water color, acrylic, and tempera paints; paint brushes; various art paper; chalk and oil pastels; screen printing and stamp making materials; hand clay, glazes, and a kiln! Specialty art supplies can be purchased upon request.
Art lessons range from simple crafts that can be completed in a one hour class to multi-step projects that occur in stages over multiple class sessions.
Art lessons happen at an arranged time with the classroom teacher during regular school hours; most lessons last about an hour.
Art lessons take place in the regular classroom. The community room can be reserved for special projects that involve more set up, like clay projects. Multiple classes can be set up in the cafeteria for larger group projects.
